This past week I was lucky enough to spend some time on the Disney Magic Cruise checking out some of the activities that they have to offer. I was extremely impressed by the Disney Magic that they are able to bring the Disney magic to the sea with such ease. I cannot wait to bring my daughter aboard so that I see her melt when she sees all her favorite characters doing everything from posing for pictures to performing her favorite movies live. The experience will be priceless.

“Tangled: The Musical”

“Tangled: The Musical” is the newest original Disney Cruise Line stage spectacular. Presented exclusively aboard the Disney Magic, it’s the first-ever stage adaptation of the beloved animated film, “Tangled.” I saw it last week at the World Premiere aboard the Disney Magic. Wow! I was blown away by the acting, stage design, costumes, everything was fantastic! The songs from the film were brought to life in the musical. There were new songs composed by the original composer for Tangled, Alan Menken. Mother’s Knows Best is still stuck in my head over 5 days later.

The costumes were fantastic and brought to life what the costume designer, Tony Award-winning designer Paloma Young calls Rapunzel “the Pinterest Princess.” Since she always on her own in the tower, she is extremely crafty and artsy. You can tell that there is great amount of detail from everything from the Rapunzel’s hair to the thugs costumes.

Party on Deck

Live entertainment does not end with the shows.  The fun on the Disney Magic begins with “Adventures Away,” a welcome aboard show on embarkation day. The party is dance-along, sing-along fun for the whole family. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and other Disney characters decked out in their seafaring finest lead the fun. The show is a celebration of the fun aboard a Disney cruise, building to the exciting sounding of the ship’s horn that signals the beginning of an incredible voyage.

Pirate Night

On one night during each cruise, guests are encouraged to don their eye patches, swarthy swaggers and “pirate finest” for the adventurously themed deck party, Pirates IN the Caribbean. With stunt performers repelling from atop the funnel, an epic battle at sea ensues as the good guys take on the villains. Characters such as Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Captain Mickey, Minnie and Goofy join guests for a raucous good time, complete with music, dancing and a spectacular grand finale—fireworks at sea like only Disney can do!

Disney’s Oceaneer Club

Disney’s Oceaneer Club is open to 3- to 12-year-old children. Young guests are greeted by giant storybook facades that allow them to choose their own adventure and step into the stories. Some of the newest “stories” to be added to the Disney family come in the form of comic book heroes from Marvel.

Marvel’s Avengers Academy

With Marvel now a part of the Walt Disney Company family, this will mark the first time Marvel Super Heroes have been introduced on a Disney Cruise Line ship. The Marvel’s Avengers Academy transports young crime-fighters to a secret S.H.I.E.L.D. base. Throughout the base, displays featuring some of the equipment that helps to make The Avengers earth’s mightiest heroes—Iron Man’s high-tech suit of armor, Captain America’s shield and Thor’s hammer—inspire super hero “recruits” through their academy missions. Marvel’s Avengers Academy is a multi-day, immersive entertainment experience for children, where they interact with Marvel characters and unleash their inner super heroes.

Andy’s Room

The stars of the Disney-Pixar “Toy Story” film trilogy come to life in Andy’s Room, a multi-level activity area where kids become toy-sized. Stocked with all of Andy’s favorite toys, the room features a giant, working Mr. Potato Head, where kids can find huge pieces and parts to craft their own Mr. Potato Head creation. Also hamming it up in Andy’s Room is a larger-than-life version of the lovable “Toy Story” piggy bank, Hamm. Andy’s bed is the focal point of the room, with a Slinky Dog slide, the easiest (and most fun!) way to quickly descend to the toy room floor where kids can play underneath.

Magical Winter Holiday

This holiday season, give a gift that’s both nautical and nice: a cruise on the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream or Disney Fantasy, all decked out with holiday cheer. Starting early November, Disney Cruise Line adds sparkle to each ship during Very Merrytime Cruises, with traditional “turkey day” fanfare, Christmas feasts, “snow flurries” and New Year’s Eve galas. But the best part might just be relaxing on deck instead of shoveling snow.

During these voyages through the new year, special stem-to-stern holiday events include:

“Mickey’s Tree-Lighting Magic” in the atrium lobby on the first night of the cruise, where Disney characters lead holiday carols and the lighting of the glittering, three-deck-tall tree.

“Santa’s Winter Wonderland Ball” in the atrium lobby, where Disney cruisers welcome the guests of honor, Santa and Mrs. Claus, with a grand celebration featuring Broadway-style entertainment, favorite Disney characters and classic holiday tunes. This evening of enchantment is made complete when a special pair of royal sisters joins the party and causes a flurry of “frozen” fun as a magical snowfall overtakes the atrium.

Holiday story time beneath the giant tree, where children gather to hear classic tales of Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanza, including a cozy and intimate storytelling with Mrs. Claus as she shares some of her favorite Christmas stories.

Dickens-inspired carolers carrying the spirit of the holidays throughout the ship while singing holiday classics, sometimes with the help of favorite Disney friends. At the end of the cruise, children will have the opportunity to join the carolers onstage for a special farewell show.

Family holiday activities including building gingerbread houses and meeting Santa Claus.

Youth holiday crafts such as decorating stockings and gingerbread men cookies, making holiday cards and creating holiday animation cells.

“Deck the Deck Holiday Party,” a tropical celebration with Disney friends leading games such as hula hooping and limbo under oversized candy canes, along with dances for the whole family like the “Yuletide Slide” and a conga line around the pool.

A special holiday edition of the cheerful farewell celebration on the final night of each cruise, with beloved Disney characters and the ship’s crew in an engaging musical finale led by Mickey Mouse.

Beards and bandanas, swords and scars, earrings and eye patches—they’re all applied with the savvy of a veteran pirate who shares his own seafaring tales. Once new buccaneers are sworn in with a sacred pirate oath, they’re now official members of Captain Jack’s motley crew, leaving their former identities behind. Decked out in rapscallion regalia, recruits are then turned loose on their pirate vessel, free to roam and enjoy the evening’s many pirate-themed festivities, including a special Pirate Night dinner menu followed by a show and fireworks!

Character Interactions
