What is a Bacon Donut?

Simply put, a doughnut or donut is a type of fried dough confection or dessert food.

The maple bacon donut is a breakfast or dessert food that has become popular. It is distinct because of the prominent bacon and maple syrup–flavored glaze used for toppings. The bacon donut has been described as tasting like a “camping breakfast” (Pancakes with maple syrup, breakfast sausage links, and strips of bacon) all in one convenient item. (Source)

My all time favorite, however, are these bacon donuts. They are jam packed with flavor. Yes, it’s like a little flavorful explosion with every bite. And they are also a crowd favorite. My family loves and raves about them and everyone that tries them asks for the recipe. So needless to say this one is a keeper and I was dying to share it with you.

Every Good Bacon Donut Starts With Good…Bacon

For me, the secret to making an incredibly good bacon donut is in the bacon. The bacon should be crispy and crunchy. Soft and undercooked bacon doesn’t have space in here. Crunchy bits, however, are the total way to go, because not only do they add flavor but they also add texture which plays a huge role.

The other thing is the glaze, go big with it because it makes a world of difference. The sweetness of the glaze is what balances of the saltiness of the bacon are what plays up this donut so much.

Once they are done you can eat them as is or spread them with a bit of peanut butter and a couple of banana coins to give them the Elvis treatments.
