Short season is nearly up on us. The first day of is March 20th and I am already getting ready to jump in the pool and break out my spring wardrobe.

You can start getting ready for short season by picking out the right short length so that you are comfortable and confident this spring. Forget what short length is ‘in’ right now and go out and start trying on all the different lengths. In this day and age, you can find shorts in every shape and style! Back when I was in my teens, I gave up wearing shorts entirely until pretty recently when I discovered that designers are now making shorts for women with real thighs. I probably should never have been shopping in Juniors even when I was thin and technically a junior. I always had women thighs even at a size 2 (yes…add 10 to that 2 and you have my size now!). With my thighs, I’ve found that 5 inch short styles work the best for me.

How to Get Ready for Short Season

You can use your favorite razor and exfoliant. I’ve heard that JERGENS® Natural Glow Color Primer, In Shower Scrub is the perfect way to get ready to get your legs ready for the sunless tanner. For the most natural-looking color, I exfoliated before applying the first layer of sunless tanner. I used my loofah, and that help me avoid the streaks.

To avoid scaring people with my white legs, I decided to use the JERGENS® Natural Glow® Foaming Daily Moisturizer on my gams. On my chest, neck, arms and back, I used JERGENS® Natural Glow® +PROTECT Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 20 to protect myself from the sun. I chose the light to medium skin color because I am pretty pale, and the other colors are unrealistic on me. You should choose the right shade based on your natural skin tone or your starting point. You should smooth on both the moisturizers evenly and thoroughly just as you would with any moisturizer. You can also use a sunless tanning/glow mitt to help apply as well as minimize hand staining. I didn’t, but I’ve read that they are awesome.

You want to avoid getting sunless tanner in dry areas even if you exfoliated. You should use all sunless tanners sparingly on dry areas like knuckles, knees, ankles and in between fingers/toes. Apply a regular moisturizer to these dry areas just before applying the JERGENS® Natural Glow® Moisturizers to minimize extra color absorption. A good rule of thumb is to use half the amount on elbows/knees and ankles as you would on the rest of your body. After applying Instant Sun and washing your hands thoroughly, apply a small amount of foam to the tops of your hands with a washcloth to help blend the color onto the tops of your hands.

For Instant Sun, sunless tanning, apply once for instant natural-looking color. Apply Instant Sun evenly over a complete area. Use enough tanner to cover a whole area of your body at once (such as your entire arm) using long, smooth, downward strokes for even coverage. For a more intense, darker color wait at least 5 minutes before you apply the second coat. After color starts to fade (7-10 days), use JERGENS® Natural Glow® Color Primer In-Shower scrub to exfoliate and prep skin for another application.

I found all these goodies at my local Walmart in the JERGENS® beauty section with a very helpful display to help you pick the perfect product to meet your needs.

Jergens-Lotion

Jergens Moisturizer Do not shower for 4-8 hours after application of Instant Sun. Allow the sunless tanner to penetrate deeply and build color. If possible, try to avoid wetting your skin for a full 8 hours.

Did color stain your hands? Apply the JERGENS® Natural Glow® Color Primer In-Shower scrub to your hands, rub together for a few seconds, and wash off!
