My dad is a huge Root Beer fan! Every place we go out to eat, he asks for Root Beer. It stinks because most places don’t carry it. We usually don’t return the restaurants that don’t carry it. For a special treat in honor of National Root Beer Float Day, I made my Dad and the entire family a Root Beer Float with IBC for my dad and Diet A&W Root Beer for those of us on Weight Watchers.

IBC Root Beer

IBC has a rich history starting 1919.  Through the years, the quality of IBC Root Beer has been upheld by retaining the original, secret formula packaged in a distinctive brown bottle. To me it signifies a classic.

A&W Root Beer

Roy Allen started selling root beer in 1919 as well. He set up a roadside drink stand to quench the thirst of the spectators at WWI parade. His new thick and creamy drink concoction was an instant success at a nickel per glass mug (can you imagine?!)  Allen immediately took on his first partner, Frank Wright and the duo went on to name the beverage A&W. To this day, A&W Root Beer is caffeine-free and made with a proprietary blend of herbs, bark, spices and berries to achieve its signature taste, and is synonymous with celebrations and good times.

First, I started with 2 scoops of Eddie Slow Churn Vanilla Ice Cream on these Root Beer Float glasses.

Next, I filled the glass up with my Root Beer of choice. It is good idea to put a plate under the glass just in case of the overflow. Diet A&W for me and IBC for my Dad.

I added rainbow sprinkles to the top and served with long spoons and red striped straws.

Did you know that A&W and IBC are both owned by Dr Pepper Snapple Group? This duo is the perfect combination of history and tasty goodness.

In honor of national root beer float day, I am excited to share with you a light root beer float recipe that is super easy to make

  1. Hi April. How decadent , this would be a lovely contribution to Food on Friday: Decadent Delights over at Carole’s Chatter. Please do bring it over and add it to the collection. Cheers
