The inspiration came from a cocktail that I had at a local pub. It was sweet and spicy giving me the idea for this diabetic friendly and low-calorie cocktail. It is truly a sweet and spicy margarita with no margarita mix in it.

Cinco De Mayo Drink Recipe

When you are planning a fiesta or a Cinco de Mayo party, or just want to have a girl’s night, this is the perfect drink for it all.

It has the perfect balance of sweet and spice.

How To Make A Sweet and Spicy Margarita

The best thing about this drink is that it doesn’t have any pre-made margarita mix in it. So I was able to craft it to exactly my liking. And I really like the way the spice of the peppers brings out the sweetness of the sugar.

It’s the perfect combination.

And don’t forget the salt! That is what enhances the flavors of all of it.

How to Make Homemade Margarita Mix

I made my own margarita mix because I don’t really like all the extra sugars in the pre-made mixes. Here’s how to make your own homemade margarita mix.

  • Sweet ‘N Low
  • Lime Juice
  • Pineapple Juice

Some people have different variations. I’ve seen one with just sugar, water and lots of lime juice. I think the pineapple juice adds more natural sweetness to it and also a bit more citrus punch!

You can save this in the fridge before your next party. Then, all you have to do is add some tequila and you are ready to party!

Sweet and Spicy Margarita Recipe

Here is my homemade margarita recipe! You are going to love it!

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. white tequila infused with Jalapeños and fresh pineapple
  • 1 jalapeño (1/2 to garnish and 1/2 to infuse)
  • 4 oz. pineapple juice
  • Splash of Lime Juice
  • 1 packet Sweet’N Low
  • Rim Salt
  • Ice

Directions

These are super simple directions. Anyone can make a homemade margarita, just follow these steps.

1. Infuse the tequila

First, I started by infusing the tequila with cut up jalapeños and sliced fresh pineapple. I left in the fridge for a half hour to chill it and get the flavors in there.

2. Mix It All Together

Next, mix together the pineapple juice, strained tequila, the packet of Sweet’N Low, tons of ice, and a splash of lime juice.

3. Prepare the glass

Rim the glass by using 2 plates, 1 with water and a packet of Sweet’N Low mixed in, and the other with the rim salt. Take the grass and roll it rim-first into the water mixture and then into the salt mixture.

4. Garnish and Drink!

Garnish with a Jalapeño wheel and a lime wedge if you have it. This would be awesome as a frozen margarita as well.

How to Make it Less Spicy

If you want to have a mild margarita (less spice), remove the white part and seeds of the jalapeño before using it.

If you are serving at a party, start off mild with slices of jalapeño on the side to add as desired.

What to Serve with Sweet and Spicy Margaritas

Serve these at your next Fiesta or Cinco De Mayo party! Here are some food ideas that would taste perfect with my margaritas.

  • Quesadillas – These are so easy that your kids can help you make them.
  • Vegetarian Ceviche Dip – This is a crowd pleaser! Serve it at your next party.
  • Taco Casserole – This is one of my family’s favorite Taco Tuesday dinner ideas.

  1. What a clever way to make margaritas, I would have never thought of using Sweet n’ Low – what a great alternative.
