Winter is right around the corner and I remembering one of my favorite Winter ever – when my family went down to Key West. The weather is perfect in Key West during this time of year! During winter, especially the dreary months, I love when my family can visit us and take a respite from the cold in sunny South Florida. Here are some of my winter travel ideas to help escape the bitterly cold weather season.

Southern Hemisphere Travel

Almost 10 years ago, I went to Buenos Aires for almost a month and realized how amazing South America really is. Argentina along with the rest of the Southern Hemisphere has the opposite seasons from people in the United States and the Northern Hemisphere. When it is winter in the United States, it is Summer in the Southern Hemisphere. This switch of seasons makes travel to the South Hemisphere a great idea for winter family vacations. I am biased toward Buenos Aires in Argentina as a choice to for winter vacation, but there are so many other spots that you might love like with slightly milder Summers. Buenos Aires can get into the 90’s during their summers.

If you are looking for more mild summer temperatures (during December), Mendoza in Argentina is a great choice. This is Argentina’s wine country with temperatures around 79 degrees Fahrenheit.

I have been hearing amazing things about Peru, Chile, and Columbia. There are so many other places in South America that I am dying to explore.

You can also check out places in India which always has a warm climate. Here are some tips on going to India with Kids.

Mediterranian Travel

The Mediterranian has pretty mild winters and is a great place to avoid a bitterly cold winter. My husband and I love going to Barcelona. It is an amazing city with lots to explore. You can stay a few nights or weeks and never be bored. The Sagrada Familia and Park Guell are most see for every visitor to Barcelona. During the winter in Barcelona, the temperatures are in the mid-50s. If you are coming from an extremely cold climate, this can be considered a mild winter. If this is too cold for your blood, there are other spots on the Mediterranian that are much warmer.

South Florida

It is no surprise that South Florida is a hot spot for people in the colder areas of the United States to have second homes. Here in Florida, we call them snowbirds because they fly south for the winter. I can definitely understand why they would have a second house here in Florida. The weather in the winter is perfect with the highs in the low 70s and the lows in the 50s. It barely ever goes below 50 and hangs out in the mid-60 and low 70s all winter long.
My favorite places to visit are in Palm Beach County. Here are 9 reasons to discover the Palm Beaches. Also, a packing guide on what to bring when you visit the Palm Beaches. Boca Raton is one of the best places to visit in January and all the way through April. There are tons of amazing restaurants like Vic & Angelo’s, legendary parks for kids to play in like Sugar Sand Park, truly making it one of the best winter family vacations spots in the United States.

  14. Hyatt Place Dallas/Grapevine because that is where I am from and I would love to go home and see my family. Last time I was at home was almost 10 years ago for my oldest brothers funeral. We were military and military obligations took me away from my home state. With a family it is hard to get that much money together to take all home at once. Would love to place flowers on my mothers grave site along with my flowers for my older brother.
