Hey there folks! Mr. Golightly here at Golightly Headquarters. April is out in Anaheim at the D23 Expo, and she is having a blast! There are a ton of updates that came out of the Expo on the first day, so while she’s having all the fun, I’m going to lay down some knowledge for all you Disneyphiles out there.
Shakira Shakes up “Zootopia”
You know Shakira right? Who doesn’t? She’s an international superstar. A grammy winner, and now she’s going to be lending her voice to Zootopia. New footage was unveiled at D23 yesterday of the animated feature that will also be featuring Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon a Time). This movie will be coming from a few of the people who brought us “Wreck It Ralph” which is personally, one of my favorite animated movies.
Along with some new scenes, there was a tease of the original song “Try Everything”, which was written by Sia and the songwriting duo Stargate, and performed by Shakira.
Gigantic Takes Root
Were you as surprised as I was that Disney had not done an adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk? Of course there was a version featuring Mickey back in the 40s, but still! Well in 2018, Disney will be releasing “Gigantic” which is it’s own spin on the old English fairytale. The film will be set in Spain during the Age of Exploration.
Finally, the Rock, HAS COME BACK, to Disney!
Pardon the wrestling reference, especially since Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is becoming more well known for his silver screen exploits than his time in the squared circle. Now he will be starring in Moana, an animated feature from Disney.
Early test footage of the film featuring The Rock was debuted at D23 and there’s plenty to be excited about. The Rock will be playing the demi-god Maui as he and the title character of Moana set sail on the ocean for an action packed adventure.
More Inside Out!
Hankering for more Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust? Well Pixar premiered a new short at D23 featuring the crew of Inside Out. The short, titled Riley’s First Date, takes place when Riley is 12 and the potential of her going on her first date has her parents emotions trying to deal with the situation.
The short will be available as a bonus feature on the digital and blu-ray releases of Inside Out on October 13th and November 3rd, respectively.
