Monochromatic dressing is the best way to create a slimming effect. Apparently, people have caught on to this as I have been seeing this monochromatic trend everywhere for spring and even fall 2013.

The easiest way to wear the trend is to wear all black or all white, but who wants easy! All white to me is awesome, but why not try all green or all red like I did last year. Emerald green is the Pantone’s color of the year so you will be looking thin and be completely on trend with a monochromatic green outfit.

The colors don’t need to be exactly the same shade for a great monochromatic outfit. In fact, I prefer when the colors are not the same shade.

I chose to dress Andrea in green skinny jeans from JCP (similar here from JCP as well), a cable knit top from the Gap, a peek a boo green bag from Bealls (similar transparent bag from Furla here), and brown sandals. I probably would have paired it with green flat sandals if I had a pair that fit Andrea.

Are you going to try the monochromatic trend this spring?

  1. I would definitely love to try this out! I think I’d probably start with gray. I would love to pull off pink, but I don’t think I’m that brave.

  2. how cute! You need to dress someone with some hips, short, in their early 40’s – you know someone like me. So I can figure out what to wear!

  3. Um no. I always mix and match colors never pairing two slightly different shades. Its just not my style but it may look good on someone else

  4. I’ve never really been into the monochromatic as I didn’t want to be even more boring than I am. I like this varying of shades though.

  5. I had no idea monochromatic can create the slimming effect. I love the Pantone color of the year, so this entire outfit is very fresh and appealing in my eyes. The aqua goes so well with the grass green of the bag! Overall just a really nice color scheme to work with. Thanks for sharing the inspiration!
