I recently met up with fellow fashionista and blogger, Aileen of Newsy Parents at Sage French Cafe in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Sage has a french winery interior with dark wood, exposed bricks and cranberry red accents. It reminded me of days gone by, when I spent the majority of my time studying in a french cafe in Miami. The French Cafe that I spent so much time in has closed. Since then, I have been searching for French Cafe to replace my old favorite. Sage French Cafe & Wine Bar fits the bill perfectly!
The Sage menu has french staples with a little twist, like escargot and brie appetizers; a variety of crepes; Cornish Hen, Duck and Steak for main courses. They host a brunch on Sunday with all kinds of fun variations on Eggs Benedict. One of my fave breakfast choices! The prices are very reasonable for the most part. I shared the Pistachio Brie appetizer with Aileen and has the Steak Sandwich as my lunch. The Steak Sandwich came out on a soft bun with medium rare pieces of steak just the way I ordered it. It also came with a small side salad and yummy dressing. The Pistachio Brie appetizer came with raspberry sauce and apple chutney. It was delicious! You can tell that Chef Laurent knows his way around the kitchen!
My friend had one of the fish specials. I tried it and it was fresh and tasty. I also ate her side tomato because she is not a tomato girl. The tomato was beautiful and yummy with pesto on top.
The restaurant is a great choice if you are looking for an amazing French meal with American style customer service. Traditional French service is very slow and I am not a huge fan of feeling like I have been forgotten about. I have not been to Sage for Brunch, but after looking at the menu options, I suspect that there will be a follow up to this review. If you’re ever in the Fort Lauderdale area and looking for a solid french lunch or dinner or yummy brunch, this is definitely a good place to check out.
