Your travels are supposed to be a super fun time for you, but that doesn’t mean that you can automatically just forget about everything else that you need to do. High up on that priority list is looking after yourself.
You need to make sure that you are doing this to the best of your ability, even though you are going to be traveling around.
Now, we understand that this can be tough sometimes, and we’re not saying that you have to be good all of the time because that’s an unreasonable expectation. However, what we are saying is that you still need to do what you can to keep yourself in the best condition possible, and we’re going to help you with that right now.
Don’t Fall Into The Eating Badly Trap
First, you want to avoid falling into the trap of eating poorly everywhere you go. Yes, it’s true that you can treat yourself while you are away, try new things that you haven’t tried before, and generally experience what there is to offer. What you cannot do though, or what you should not be doing is that you should not be falling into the trap of eating poorly on a regular basis. If you do this, then your body is not going to be nourished, it’s not going to be able to work at maximum capacity, and you’re not going to feel good about yourself.
This is not what you want, even with all of the movement that you are going to be doing. You should try to make sure that you’re including fruit and vegetables into your diet regularly while you’re traveling to ensure that you’re getting everything that you need. Sweets and temptations are nice in moderation, but it’s better to enjoy it in small quantities than to regret it in large ones.
Track How Much You’re Moving
Another thing that we think you should be doing is tracking how much you’re moving. While you’re traveling, you’re probably going to be doing a lot more walking than you would when you are at home due to being in a different place, having so much to see and so on. So, it’s a good idea to keep a track of how much you’re doing.
The reason for this is that you can try and up your fitness goals at home based on this. For example, if you normally walk around 5000 steps per day when you’re at home, but you’re comfortably doing 12,000 on travels, then why can’t you up your home target to somewhere in the middle?
Keeping track of this will help you to understand how well you’re doing with your movement and fitness, and ensuring that you manage to meet your goals even if you’re not at the gym or working out.
Keep Your Brain Active Constantly
As well as your body, you also need to think about how you can keep your mind in tip top condition. One of the things that we strongly recommend is that you keep your brain active constantly by doing games that keep your brain engaged.
We mean things like sudoku, crosswords, and anything else where you have to really think about the answers that you are giving. Now, we know that these don’t appeal to some people because it means that you actually have to engage your brain, but we promise you that it’s worth it. It may well take some time to get into these, or find one that you actually enjoy doing, but once you do this is going to be so much fun.
These are perfect for if you are in the car on a road trip and you’re not the one driving, or for when you are on the plane, or relaxing by the pool. You will definitely be able to find a good time for brain games!
Talk About How You’re Feeling
You might not associate traveling with talking about how you are feeling, but it’s important that you are doing this. A lot of the time when we are doing something that we think we should be happy about and excited for, we struggle.
Even though you are looking forward to your travels, and enjoying yourself, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still have other feelings. It’s normal, and it’s okay, and if you want to stay healthy then you can’t simply ignore them. We know that you wish you could, but it’s not going to be an option.
Your travel companion should be able to talk to you, or if you have a therapist you can send them an email, or write in your journal. Do whatever you want, just make sure that you are talking about how you feel, the good and the bad, and not bottling anything up inside.
Do Whatever Feels Right For You
The final thing that we want to say is that you need to do whatever feels right for you. While we don’t always trust our bodies, you need to learn how to do this asap.
Your body knows what it needs, your brain knows what it needs, and it will constantly push you in the right direction of getting that. It might be tough sometimes, but you have got to find a way of doing whatever ends up feeling right for you, even if it doesn’t always seem right for other people.
Hopefully, you have found this article enlightening and now have a few more ideas of simple tips that you can use to stay in tip top condition on your travels. It doesn’t have to be difficult, but we know that a lot of people find it tricky to stay in the mindset of looking after themselves.
If you can avoid falling out of it in the first place that is going to be the ideal, but if you can’t, then just do your best to get back on the wagon as soon as you can. It’s hard, but you can do it if you want to.
