Steal their Style: My 3 New Style Crushes for Spring

Katie is a foodie and self-confessed fashion junkie who blogs about trends, travel and trying to find the perfect cake recipes.

Celebrities are often wearing next season’s styles before I’ve even thought about updating my wardrobe this season. And, given that the big-name designers want them to showcase their new creations, it’s no wonder that I often find myself coveting what some of the world’s stage, screen and music stars are wearing. Here are just a few of the styles I’ve been inspired by for spring:

Helena Christensen’s neon shoes

While I might not be able to buy a whole new closet every time the season changes, investing in a few key accessories can change the look of the pieces I already own. Helena Christensen always was my favorite supermodel and she’s lost none of her style credentials. I absolutely love the way she has teamed her monochrome separates with these stand-out-from-the-crowd neon yellow heels. They have more than a little nod to the eighties and nineties when she was at the height of her fame. Neiman Marcus has a very similar style by Valentino along with a pointed toe and padded insole to make them more comfortable to wear.

Fearne Cotton’s coat

Given that Radio 1 DJ, television personality and fashion designer Fearne Cotton lives in London, it’s no wonder she has an incredible collection of coats. She seems to arrive at work in a different one every day. I’m not sure how she can possibly have room in her closet for all of her outerwear, but my favorite is this rose pink number which Fearne teamed with a leopard print top and dewy make-up. I’m going to opt for a thinner trench coat though as winter turns to spring, like the lovely shower-proof one from La Redoute. It will look beautiful teamed with skinny jeans and ballet pumps for a weekend casual look. And, if Fearne ever needs to make a bit of room on her own coat stand, there’s always room on mine…

Rachel Bilson’s tank top

I’ve loved Rachel Bilson’s girl-next-door look ever since she appeared on the OC. And, now that she’s staring in Hart of Dixie, her style credentials have become even more impressive. My favorite outfit of the show so far has been a monochrome panelled sleeveless top which she teamed with an emerald green maxi. The top is by Andrea Lieberman’s A.L.C label. An LA-based celebrity stylist, Andrea launched her own label six years ago and has quickly become renowned for her effortlessly cool basics with a fashion-forward edge. While the exact top Rachel is wearing is a past season, Nordstrom has a similar tank with a monochrome print which would look great with jeans or a maxi skirt. While I have my own style, if I spot a piece I like on a celebrity, or even just someone I see at a party or walking past, I’m not afraid to try to find out where it’s from. After all, they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
