5 tips for wearing 1990s inspired grunge today

The 1990s grunge trend is back in a huge way for fall this year. Of  course, most women cannot wear flannel and ripped jeans in their daily life. In order to embrace the 90s look without cutting holes in your jeans, try wearing flannel plaid print in a more delicate fabric like silk. The plaid top can be incorporated into with your current wardrobe by pairing it with a simple black pencil skirt. If you are dying to wear flannel and that worn out Nirvana t-shirt that you’ve held on to all these years, wear them on the weekend with skinny jeans and black lace up boots or a light wash denim skirt.

1. Pick up a pair of skinny jeans from a local thrift store and cut small holes in them using do it yourself methods found on YouTube. Avoid baggy jeans unless boyfriend jeans work with your body type. The most important thing is to pick a jean that matches your body type rather than one that is too trendy. You want to look and feel good! Reserve these ripped jeans for weekend wear only! Don’t even try at an office!

2. Invest in a pair of low heel or flat lace up boots. Avoid the clunky Dr. Martens and get a more refined pair. They have them in every department store right now, and you can try out the look without spending a fortune! Wear them with shorts, skirts, tights, and jeans.

3. Buy a silk plaid shirt to wear to work with a pencil skirt like the one pictured.

4. Avoid mini skirts. They look good on about 10% of people and if you  aren’t one of those 10%, then leave this look in the stores!

5. Avoid overalls. They are rarely flattering and will be out of style in a few months.
