The outfits and accessories from the New York Black Swan premier have been the subject of conversation for many fashionistas. Natalie Portman has been getting flack for choosing a black dress that does not show off her body. I find myself disagreeing with these naysayers, and believe that Natalie Portman’s choice of color and makeup were perfect for the film’s premiere.
I was lucky enough to see the Black Swan at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival in October. The black-white juxtaposition is a crucial part to the film’s aesthetic and mood. The star’s choice of makeup, black dress, and Lolita book purse complimented this mood. Her willingness to stay thematically connected to the artistic endeavor that she is promoting is something to be applauded.

The Black Swan New York premiere is such a fascinating moment in fashion and film history. I love looking back at the red-carpet style from this era—the elegant gowns, dramatic details, and polished Hollywood glamour really captured the mood of the movie. Such a beautiful throwback!
