How to Curl a Long Bob

How to Curl a Long Bob is a compensated post, but all opinions are my own. 

I have been growing out my new haircut and now I would consider it a long bob. Bob hair cuts are a pain to curl with a wand so I just stopped curling it all together until I stumbled upon this very stylish ghd 1″ styler. It has a rounded body allowing it to be used to curl as well as straighten. It is the perfect styling tool to take on a trip as you can straighten, curl, flip, or put waves in your hair.

This is my first ghd flat iron and I have to say that I extremely impressed by the quality! This is the ghd classic styler dressed up in pastel for fall. I love that pastels are hot for FALL! Supplies & Tools

• ghd lavender 1″ professional styler 
• heat protectant oil or serum
• light hair spray
• large hair clip or hair tie

How to Curl a Long Bob Instructions

Starting with dry hair and put a dime sized amount of heat protect on the bottom 3/4 of your hair. Avoid the roots. You do not want to get your roots too oily.

Divide the hair so that the majority of it is pinned up with a large clip or hair tie on top of your head. This is the second group of hair in the photo below. I already curled the bottom layer.

Take about in inch of hair and put the flat iron a inch or two away from you head.

Twirl you wrist to turn the flat iron so that hair swirls around it.

You will be twirling your wrist around while holding the hair with your other hand when making the turn. So you are turning the flat iron, not the hair around the flat iron.

You do not wrap your hair all of your hair around the flat iron like you would with a curling iron. Instead you wrap just part of the hair and slowly and carefully pull it down the length of the hair.

If your curl doesn’t look curly, you can make it curl by sliding the flat iron more slowly down the hair strand. This gives the hair  more time to get hot enough to curl. You can also try taking a smaller section. Flat iron curls also work best on clean, smooth hair.  If there is too much product or if it’s too tangled it won’t curl as well.

Here are a few notes AKA pro tips!

If your curl is only curled at the very ends:  Spend more time curling at the top of the strand than at the ends.  I always hold the flat iron longer at the top because I want to make sure it’s curled.

If your curls are kinked, you are gripping the flat iron closed too tightly.  You don’t need to grip it tightly to get it to curl.  Instead, try holding it closed a little more softly.

Keep hair centered in the flatiron to avoid snagging or pulling. It does not feel good.  Once you have it all wound around the flat iron, carefully unwind. If the curl comes out too tight, you can run your fingers through it to loosen it up.

To finish off the look, spritz with a light hair spray.
