8It’s winter in Sunny South Florida, and the warm rays show no signs of stopping. So, what does a South Florida gal incorporate into her makeup routine to express her inner snow bunny while maintaining her feet firmly in flip-flops and sexy high-heeled sandals, and ,well, maybe a knee-high boot here and there? It’s simple, she turns to the Pantone 2015 color of the year, Marsala!
Like the wine, Marsala is a rich full-bodied red-brown that gives the feel of sophistication and warmth, with a natural earthy vibe. It is universally flattering in all facets of fashion, beauty, design, and decor. Marsala possesses a multitude of creative distinction depending on it’s use and textured finishes.
In makeup, Marsala appears on the entire face. Because it is such a deep hue, however, I highly recommend focusing on just one feature of the face for everyday wear. In other words, do not cover your entire face in Marsala. Just pick one feature to highlight/focus on: lips, cheeks, eyes. You get my drift! You can even add Marsala color to your hair. That would be so fashion-forward! Only with lots of additional practice would I recommend making up additional facial features in the same hue. Otherwise, stick to mixing Marsala with other neutrals, like brown or nude, even a light smokey grey. For tackling the task of the neutrals, the Urban Decay NAKED palettes are an excellent option and pretty much have the upper hand in this department, not to mention a very personal favorite 😉
If you are looking for creamier options which blend really nicely, then go for the gorgeous, ubiquitous colors of REVLON Creme Shadows. For these, always prep the lids with a light dusting of powder or your favorite eyeshadow primer, to prevent caking in the crease.
For my look, I went with the Marsala lip, using a combination of limited edition brown/red/wine colors mixed from my personal kit from both Prescriptives and Smashbox “Fig”. Check out the links for similar colors used.
Which feature will you make up in Marsala? I’m going for the eyes and cheeks next!
P.S. Here are the deets on a few key pieces from my South Florida Winter outfit:
Obi/Waist belt: GUESS Jeans (similar belt)
Boots: Charles David (similar boot)
Crossbody bag: MZ Wallace “Mia” (similar bag)
I love the way she wears the Marsala lip here. It’s a colour I myself am really enjoying. Thanks, Pantone.
