This Holiday upset stomach preparedness guide is sponsored by BJ’s Wholesale Club. All opinions are my own.
The best part of the holidays for me is getting to eat all the yummy food that we have been making since I was a kid. Thanksgiving and Christmas are filled with so many yummy main courses and the desserts are a dream. My favorite are the Italian Cookies that my great-grandmother would make for us – Rainbow Cookies that are supposed to look like the Italian flag with a red, green and white sponge inside the cookie. I finally wrote the recipe down.
You can try my Great Grandma’s recipe for Italian Rainbow Cookies here. All the amazing foods for the holidays don’t love me as much as I love them. When I was at BJ’s this week, I stopped in the Health and Vitamin aisle to pick up some digestive health items that will help me survive the holiday. I bought them in bulk at BJ’s since I am not the only one in my family with digestive issues. We are pretty open with our need for medicines to combat upset stomachs. During the holidays, I keep my guest bathroom fully stocked with anything my guests might need.
Pepto Bismol Ultra Liquid
The pink stuff is a superstar of combatting any stomach issues you might encounter. It coats your stomach and provides super fast relief from nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, and diarrhea. It is also ideal for out of town guests that visit during the holidays because it is an effective travelers diarrhea treatment. Pepto Bismol also treats upset stomach due to overindulgence in food and drink including heartburn, indigestion, nausea, gas, belching, and fullness. I think it is fair to say that Pepto Bismol is pretty magical during the holidays.
Tums Smoothies Chewable Tablets
BJ’s had the biggest Tum’s bottle I have ever seen. They have Tums Smoothies which are little less chalky and easier to eat than the originals. Tums are another superstar of treating stomach upset. They treat sour stomach, acid indigestion, heartburn, and upset stomach. I like to have both Tums and Pepto Bismol on hand because usually, my guests have a preference for what they like to use to treat an upset stomach.
Lactose Intolerance Medicine
At the beginning of this year, I did an elimination diet and came to realize that a lot of issues with my stomach and skin were from eating dairy. Since I gave up dairy, my stomach has been so much better and my skin has been cleared up almost entirely. I get an occasional pimple from hormonal changes monthly, but mostly my acne has been eliminated.
Since the holidays are coming, I want to see if I can eat dairy with the help of Lactaid. My friend was telling me that BJ’s has great deals on lactose intolerance medicine and that I should try them out to see if I can eat dairy with the help of Lactaid. I did not know this existed until recently and I am dying to try it. Since BJ’s had a coupon and they already have really low prices, I decided to test out Lactaid to see if it helps me. I will keep you posted to see if it works for me! Fingers crossed!
Probiotics
Over the past few years, I have realized the importance of Probiotics in my life. Did you know that 70% of your body’s immune system lives in your digestive tract? Healthy digestion is part of staying healthy during the holidays. The Olly Purely Probiotic has one billion live cultures that give you a daily boost to help maintain a natural balance of flora in your digestive system.
