We do a lot of entertaining in the summer so having my home in tip top shape is imperative.

With multiple dogs and cats, many special needs and with allergies, living in the desert with a backyard that is all dirt, wanting and needing the house clean for the summer is a must.
Lemons to disinfect the counters and vinegar to clean just about anything. Another good one is wiping the dog down with a towel when she comes in the house even when she’s not wet. Keeps some of the pollen and other stuff she might pick up out of the house.
I also have a dog and a cat, and the dog tracks in mud and dirt, especially in our rainy Cleveland summers. I definitely need a vacuum that’s lighter than my heavy Dyson, for my two story house!

I always use the wand on my vacuum in the spring and fall inside my air vents. Just remove them and reach in as far as you are able to and suck up anything you can. Pet hair tends to gather inside them and blow out whenever your ac/heat is running. Even though you are not reaching deep, it makes a big difference.

Right now much of our belongings are in a storage container in front of our house that our insurance arranged for us! So, it’s a good time to deep clean as much as possible. Then when the insurance is done repairing the room, the nice clean rooms will perfectly compliment the refurbished ones! 🙂

I want my home clean for the summer because it gets so dirty during the winter! Our home is heated by a wood-burning stove so wood chips and dirt are ever-present during the winter. My cleaning tip is to break down all the cleaning chores into little, 5 minute chunks. I made a daily schedule of about 1/2 hour of cleaning per day, illustrated it with cute pictures, and stuck in on the fridge. Now if only my husband would take the hint! 😉
It’s that time of year again. Every Spring I take in and foster litters of kittens. I love being able to help these little furbabies find new homes, but they can get pretty messy. With dozens of kittens in the house, It’s a constant battle to keep things clean. I found the best way to remove kitty hair off furniture and rugs is with a damp surgical type rubber glove. Just give it a little rinse, pat dry, and wipe. Grabs and sticks great!!

To enjoy summer, I clean a little bit everyday. I can spend 15 minutes cleaning a day and enjoy the rest of the day, instead of spending an entire beautiful day inside scrubbing toilets, vacuuming, dusting, mopping. I also try to do a load of laundry a day for the same reasons. I want my home clean because I have a newborn. It needs to be clean simply for that reason. Having a toddler, it gets messy very fast. I don’t want the newborn to find a random cheerio and choke, or spend time on a dirty floor/carpet.

My cleaning tips are use a fabric softener dryer sheet to dust, it really works & attracts the dust really well. Use real lemon to freshen your home & have it smelling lemony fresh in no time. To help get stains out of carpets I make a concoction of vinegar, baking soda & a little dab of peroxide, really works awesome on carpet stains.

I keep floor mats by both the front and back door to help keep from tracking in dirt, we also have a shelf inside both doors to place shoes on and have a “no shoes allowed” rule. candlewax on your carpet, before vacuuming, take an iron, and a paper towel. Place the paper towel over the wax. take the heated iron and place it on the paper towel. it will lift all the wax up. Vacuum and voila! The wax is gone!

A really great cleaning tip is to never polish your furniture before cleaning your floors to make sure you trap all the dust in your vacuum and dust rag. Always take your vacuum outside to empty!

We like to use degreasers on non-carpeted floors to prevent them from becoming slippery. We also don’t wear shoes in our home to avoid tracking grass and dirt throughout the house.
