Now that my hubby and I are with child, we have been on the hunt for a new house. We stopped looking for a while as everything we looked at that was in our price range needed a lot of work. They were all livable, but extremely outdated. It is hard to imagine maxing out our budget to buy the home and then needing to come up with a ton more money to redo bathrooms, the kitchen, and in some cases add hurricane shutters. We would have to either compromise our choice of neighborhood or our tastes. Neither option was ever going to happen so we stopped looking for a while.
When I was in law school at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, I swore that I would never live in Boca. In fact, I made fun of the sheltered children that came from the Boca area. This never thing has become a running joke in my life as I really believe never to say never because you don’t know where life will take you and you might find yourself wanting something you never thought you would. Now, several years later, I want to live in Boca. Things may change again, but for now, I really like what the town has to offer. It’s clean, well maintained, and safe. Perfect place for a child to grow up without having to go to private school! Also, the shopping is pretty great!
After giving up on our dream of finding a home that would suit our wallet and our tastes, our realtor contacted us about a house that had not been put on the market yet. It was in the middle of renovations, which would solve our previously mentioned problem of the outdated nature of the homes in the neighborhoods we liked. The size, location, and price are pretty perfect for us. There are little things that need to be changed out, but most of that can be done over time. We are waiting for the renovations to be completed so that we can get the last appraisal and inspection out of the way. Keep your fingers crossed!
Good luck. It takes patience and quick decisions The house we bought was listed for about 10 minutes we went strait over to see it and make an offer
WOW!! That is nuts!
Try not to stress out. I’m in the middle of selling our house and buying our next one and my stress levels just went through the roof. Not healthy and I wish I would have walked more, eating better, etc to help deal with the stress. Congrats and good luck!
I hope it continues just as you’re hoping! Everything changes when you get kids and where we live is chosen because of that for sure!
Good luck! I can completely commiserate! We’re currently selling our home in SD and are moving to TX. The market here is still pretty depressed but every house we like and would consider looking at in TX gets sold within a day or two of it being on the market – it’s so frustrating and I’m worried that we’re going to have to ‘settle’ just to get a house and not get the house ‘I love.’
I wish you all the luck in the world. Our realtor told us about this before it the market so I would try to find a good one. Maybe hit angie’s list.
Good luck with your house hunting. Have you looked into Wellington? We lived there for 18 years and loved it.
Oh my gosh, how exciting!! But why are all of my friends moving so far away? LOL First Tracy and now you are going to Boca…
Miami is just too busy for us. We want quiet, clean, and great restaurants!
Congratulations! My husband and I bought our first house when I was very pregnant with our first son, and we spend almost no time looking. We found the right sized home in the right budget almost immediately. We are in the early stages of looking for another home in a better school district for high school, and I’m already DONE! haha
Buying a new home is so exciting. I remember when we bought ours ages ago. 🙂 My dream now is to buy land and build my dream home. A gal can dream…
Congrats to you!
Good luck on finding something you really want.
Good luck!
Good Luck I hope to be house hunting in a year or so
I hope it goes well! My only advice is to be patient. There’s a lot of waiting, and a lot of paperwork, and then more waiting. It can become stressful if you let it so just relax about it! Also, TOTALLY a good move buying a house while pregnant because now you won’t have to help carry boxes! We moved into our first apartment when I was pregnant & I figured that out the fun way 🙂
That is awesome! First time, I will not be involved in the moving considering that I am doing heavy lifting everyday all day!
It’ll happen if its meant to be!
hope it turns out to be the perfect forever home
Good luck! Buying a house is always stressful. But when you find the right one, it is so nice to settle in.
