For those of you who don’t know him, John Mulaney is one of comedy’s brightest young stars. For years he has been working as a writer on Saturday Night Live, and also worked with comedy heavyweights like Mike Birbiglia. I didn’t know any of this until I looked him up on IMDb. You see, John Mulaney’s stand up special has been lounging in my Netflix recommendations for months now. It wasn’t until recently when Max recommended that I figured, “Ah, why not?”
I was not disappointed. John Mulaney’s dresses like he’s going for a job interview and has not a hair out of place. By his own admission, he may be gay and just doesn’t know it yet. He speaks with a soft, slightly effeminate voice. And all of these characteristics swirl together to form a rich tapestry of sharp and witty delivery.
What slayed me was Mulaney’s bit on Law and Order: Special Victim’s unit, and his breakdown of Ice-T’s character on the show. There are many other additional moments that are worth firing the special up on Netflix. If you are looking for something to watch, and are a fan of sharp stand-up comedy, then I definitely recommend you check out John Mulaney: New in Town.
Do you have any comic recommendations?
Sounds like someone I would like! Thanks for the recommendation, Kevin!
