There is something about the Ocean that draws me in. It is so freeing to be on the water. Your thoughts and worries are so small in comparison to the vastness of the water. Boats allow the wind and water to blow away your problems.

Open Water

I grew up spending the summers on boats either in New York or down here in Florida. My parents had a house in Florida since I was five years old and decided to make the official move when I was 9. We looked for homes that were on the water with deep water in the back so that my Dad could park his giant fishing boat.

When I went to high school, I loved going on the boat every weekend with my friends. In the St. Lucie Inlet there is a spoiled island and sand bar area that the locals call the Sand Bar. Boats dock up and have a big party on the weekend. It is essentially a big tailgate without a game.

During the years that I spent in Miami going to the University of Miami, I spent a lot of time on my friend John’s boat in the Biscayne Bay. It was always a blast!

When I moved closer to Palm Beach, I joined a Sailing Club to try out the sailing. I discovered that I love all types of boating. Sailing is a little more work, but lots of fun!

I have not been boating nearly as much since I started having bills to pay and children to care for it. It is such a shame because I love it so much, and it has been such a big part of my life for so long. The Good Run had me in tears remembering how awesome the water can be. It is a short film about a man’s life spent on the water, by Inception’s award-winning cinematographer, Wally Pfister. This heartwarming film showcases just how big a role boating can play in life’s most memorable moments.
