Learn how to grow beautiful and delicious pineapples from the tops of the pineapples you buy at the grocery store. You will learn how to grow pineapple with these simple tips and tricks!

For the longest time, I had a black thumb. I even killed a bamboo plant that is said to be unkillable. Somehow I turned my black thumb green with these pineapples and some jalapenos.

The feeling of getting to eat something that you planted and cared for is like no other. When the first pineapple popped up, I was over joyed. Now, I have four pineapples in my fridge. It all started when I heard that you could grow a pineapple from the tops. I was making this recipe last year and saved the top of the pineapple to let it root.

You can start to grow a pineapple by cutting the green leaf top off a whole pineapple.

Now, peel several layers of the green leaves off the bottom stalk leaving almost an inch of white.

Place the pineapple in a small juice glass or jam jar by a window for a couple of weeks. Make sure to fill up the water.

Once you can see a decent amount of roots coming out of the bottom of the stalk, you can plant the pineapple into the dirt. If you are planting in a pot, I would get a huge one. I planted one in a pot and the pineapple broke the pot. I also planted 3 pineapples in 1 pot and it stunted their growth. They ripened as mini-pineapples rather than fully grown pineapples.

Full Sun

The pineapple needs to placed in a full sun location so that it gets the most light possible.

Watering

Water every other day making sure not to overwater and not to forget about the plant. I definitely have forgotten and let the rain take care of them, but you cannot rely on rain alone.

Pick When Yellow

It took a year for my plants to become a pineapple. Pick the pineapple when it is full yellow and ready to eat.
