Since I have so much time on my hands lately, I have been working diligently to organize my home. It has finally come time to organize my home office. Today, we are going to go over some awesome home office organization ideas.
I am going to add photos as I organize my home office. Right now. the majority of what I have organized are on the shelves in the back corner of my office.
Home Office Organization Ideas
We have been focusing on keeping only items that bring us joy in our home a la Marie Kondo. The items in the office are no different. Since the office is filled with useful items, it is important to focus on whether the items bring you joy, in the sense that they bring utility to you and your life. Joy in an office setting is really shown by how the items make your life and work easier.
I started the process of de-cluttering my office by going through each drawer and looking at every item to see if it helps make my life easier or if it’s something that I really use. I found a ton of electronics that I no longer use and will never use again. Most of the time that’s because I have replaced them with newer models.
Selling Electronics
During the organization of my home office, I came upon a lot of electronic devices that I no longer use. I found devices all over my home and piled them up in my office to deal with once I started organizing my office.
We have several old tablets and phones that I don’t want to just throw away. In fact, it would be nice to make some money off of them. I found this site called Trademore that allows you to sell your devices from the comfort of your own home.
Office Organization
After I went through most of the items in my office, I cleared out a corner to add some shelves. I found some really cool shelves at Ikea that are inexpensive and look classic and clean.
My husband and I ordered the Ikea Billy Bookcases to install along the back wall and side wall of my office. You can also buy extensions for the top of the billy bookcases if you want them to be taller than the ones we used. Then, we bought white containers and labels to help us organize the craft supplies and items that we need for the office.
The bookcases we used are here and these 11 inch baskets fit perfectly!
Here is a list of the different baskets we have on the shelves. Your office might have different items, but this is a place to start your office organization project.
- Paper
- Envelopes
- Cards
- Business Cards
- Yarn
- Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Cords
- Camera Equipment
- Vinyl Paper
- Glitter
- Ribbons
- Markers
- Cricut Vinyl
Cord Organization
Within the cord basket, we label zip lock bags with the names of different cords. We got rid of a ton of duplicate cords and placed more phone and tablet cables throughout the house in charging stations. We added a charging station behind the couch in our media room where both my husband and I can charge up our phones while we watch movies at night. See our media room transformation here.
As I work on my office, I will be adding more tips and tricks. STAY TUNED!
Looks good! Now many people work from home, it is very important to separate the work area from the rest room, I did it with sliding glass dividers, it looks amazing.
Great solutions to organize this space. I used a variety of solid wood shelves and tables for my home office, which were very functional. I think it’s important to make the most of your space to be effective at home.
