Clear Clutch DIY

I have been eying the clear acrylic clutches by Charlotte Olympia for quite some time. I decided to give my clear clutch DIY a try when they opened the Container Store at Boca Town Center. There was perfect clear case that works perfecting for my clear clutch DIY. It is a very clutch-able size at 5 x 9 x 2 1/5. I chose the red, white, and blue star print fabric in honor of Independence Day/ The Fourth of July that is approaching.

    1. Sewing Machine
    2. Thread
    3. Less than 1/2 Yard of Fabric (used extra to make Harrison Ford a new patriotic pet scarf)
    4. Clear Plastic Box from Container Store 5 x 9 inches (only available in stores not online); I found this one on Amazon: Clear Acrylic Large All-Purpose Box

Step 1

Cut fabric piece 20 x 12.

Step 2

Fold the piece of fabric in half lengthwise with the wrong side facing out.

Step 3

Sew along the side edges only coming in about half an inch using a straight stitch and only coming up the side about 5 inches.

Step 4

Fold over the top of the fabric about an inch and sew along the edge creating a hole for the draw string to go through. Do on each side.

Step 5

Tie a knot on the end of each piece of the draw string. Use the knot to feed the draw string through the hole. Tie the draw strings together on the side that is not knotted.

  1. That is super cute! I think that I can make this too since you made it seem so easy. I love the fabric that you picked out, but the design is so easy that I want to try in multiple fabrics. It’s a great way to customize a look.

  2. I don’t understand the point of putting a clutch in a clear box … could be because I have NO fashion sense! LOL! I love the fabric you picked, though!
