Disney invited me to an all expense paid trip to Los Angeles in exchange for sharing it with you. As always, all opinions 100% my own.
This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Chrissie Fit and Jordan Fisher from Teen Beach 2. They were so much fun to spend time with. I would totally hang out with them.
Dancing & Singing Background
Chrissie Fit let us know right off the bat that she is not a professional dancer, “although Teen Beach 2 makes me look like one.” She looked like a professional to me! She told us that it came naturally because of her heritage. “I am Cuban. So I grew up in a household where we were dancing Salsa [and] Meringue. I was a Singer, and then I became an Actress. I think, I learned the most doing the Teen Beach Movie, and I appreciate it so much. I’m in awe of these guys,” stated Chrissie.
Jordan got into dancing when he had a crush on a girl in the 5th grade who was in the Drama Club. “I started acting and singing and dancing all on the same day…when I was 10,” stated Jordan.
Chrissie told us that she had a similar story starting in 5th grade with a crush on a 6th grader. She tried to talk her teacher into letting her be in the show. When the teacher refused, Chrissie borrowed a script from a neighbor and noticed there was no bad girl part. She said, “Well there has to be a bad girl.” “So the next day and I said, ‘Can I play a bad girl?'”
“I pitched her an idea. I don’t know if she felt sorry for me or she was impressed that I took this initiative, and she put me in the show. The guy didn’t fall in love with me. But, I fell I love with acting. So, it worked out.” Jordan chimed in and let us know that the same thing happened to him. How funny is that?
Advice for Aspiring Actors
Jordan advises that you should know what you want to do. “There are a lot of people that come out to L.A. [or] move to New York with the idea of becoming famous. Typically, those people don’t find success in their field because their passion is driven from a very different place.”
He gave an example of his favorite songwriters. “One of my favorite songwriters of all time is Diane Warren. She’s written with everybody from Cher to Beyonce. She wrote If I Can Turn Back time. She has not [needed] to write a song for anybody for 20 years, and she has made more money than you could ever even dream of, but she’s still does it. She pitches. She writes songs every day. That’s just what she does because she loves it. But that hustle started [early]. She’s a pitch queen and that hustle started when she was 17. That hustle started then, and it never stopped. The reason being is because she loved doing what she did. She couldn’t imagine a life where she wasn’t writing songs and making music…. Those are the people that find success and it’s also true with like-minded people.”
Rehearsals for Teen Beach 2
“For this film we started [rehersal] a year ago, July,” stated Jordan. “We conditioned for a month. It was one choreography for about three weeks here in L.A. …Because [there is] so much time spent on the beach and different terrains and different weather, you have to be in top physical shape.”
Chrissie let us know that she was not in top physical shape because she missed all their rehearsal and conditioning to work on Pitch Perfect 2. “I like eating Jambalaya and Crawfish,” Chrissie said. “But, I would get videos of the choreography, and in between takes have to learn it all. It’s incredible, and it’s very fast and it’s really kind of just like on another level.”
Dance Moves
Sometimes the moves just did not work for the actors. Jordan let us know that “everybody had a voice in the film.” He continued: “All of the dancers are incredible…but even as the Actors we could say I feel this is a little awkward. Is there any way we can shift something this way The product turned out really well, which is that’s what everybody was concerned about.”
Chrissie chimed in agreeing that it was an open set. “Everybody was very open to our input because we wanted to make the best movie possible. And, I feel Christopher Scott, who was the Choreographer, just did a brilliant job of stepping up the choreography in the second one. I’m really proud of this movie. Not just because of the spectacle, yes it’s bigger, it’s better….there’s many wonderful messages in this movie. I’m a big fan of female empowerment. We’re seeing these two girls Mac and Lela have an actual friendship and not compete against each other for something. I feel that’s really important for our young girls to see and that there are healthy friendships and relationships. Aside from all of the great musical numbers and the dancing…I feel that this is a great movie for kids because it just shows you how important friendship is, and it shows you healthy and positive friendships with females. I think that that’s the biggest thing that comes out of this movie aside from all the cool clothes.”
