Do you love Florida as much as I do? If you don’t, you should. Not only is the weather amazing, you get nice people and extremely fresh ingredients. There are so many commodities that are Fresh From Florida.
Fresh From Florida and the Florida Department of Agriculture promotes locally grown Florida produce and fresh seafood. As a Florida loving resident, I love being a cheerleader of these awesome seasonally grown foods:
- Blueberries
- Tomatoes
- Sweet Corn
- Watermelon
- Seafood
There are tons more local grown options. Grab the list here and see when they are in season. The best way to support local growers is to look for Florida grown fruits and veggies at the market.
Blueberries
Lately, we have been buying blueberries like crazy. My daughter is a big fan and takes down a container in one sitting on her own. Considering the blueberries nutritional value and the lower prices, I cannot complain about it. Blueberries are filled with antioxidants and they are said to help cognitive function basically making you smarter!! They are filled with vitamin k, vitamin c, magnesium, fiber and copper. The blueberry season in Florida is April and May.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are one of my favorite vegetables. They go great in everything from a great Mexican dish with pico de gallo and Italian dishes like this ginger tomato chutney.
Sweet Corn
Sweet Corn is almost always in season in Florida. Sweet Corn is an awesome side dish for the upcoming patriotic holidays. It is extremely easy to throw on the BBQ without worrying about it.
Watermelon
Watermelon is in season from April to July. I love slicing watermelon for my daughter and her friends. Then, I love making mixed drinks like this amazing Watermelon Cooler Drink Recipe.

Seafood
This past weekend, I had the privileged to taste local grown Pompano fish. I had no idea that there were so many fish farms locally. Due to overfishing, fish farms are the best way to make sure that we continue to have fish in our diet.
