This The Pigeon Wants a Puppy! – New Puppy Party Post is sponsored by Disney Book Group. We love Mo Willems’ Pigeon books and are super excited to share this party with you in celebration of 16 years of Pigeon books. All opinions are my own.
The Pigeon Wants a Puppy! and I know how he feels! My family lost our precious and well-loved family dog earlier this year and we all wanted a new puppy! We rescued our new puppy, Brighton, a few weeks ago and have just fallen head over heels in love with him. This week in celebration of Pigeon’s 16th BIRD-day and our new pup Brighton, we are having a fun New Puppy Party where my daughter and I make homemade dog bones for him and read The Pigeon Wants a Puppy! together for the millionth time.
I love creating activities around my daughter’s favorite books like The Pigeon Wants a Puppy! Mo Willems Pigeon Presents site makes it really easy to host parties, and makes entertaining easy with free printables and activities to go with his many of his books. I find doing activities that go along with books helps encourage reading and conversations. Reading is not just reading the word, but instead comprehending the message. The goal is to encourage learning at home and conversations between parents and children and the Mo Willems resources are a great help!
We’ve just hit the 16 year mark of the Mo Willems Pigeon series. Can you believe this awesomeness has been going on for 16 years!? We just love Pigeon books and have tons of them! The Pigeon books are the first books where I saw my daughter get really into reading, and now they are part of our everyday reading routine My daughter gets so excited when the Pigeon gets sassy and it’s amazing to see her react to the stories.
We are hosting a New Puppy Party to celebrate that we got our wish and have welcomed a new puppy into the family. It is really just an excuse for us to have friends over to meet the puppy and share our favorite book, The Pigeon Wants a Puppy!
The Pigeon Party Decor
I kept the party decor pretty simple with a few balloons in white and blue to match the Pigeon’s feathers. For the party table, I used a white sequin tablecloth that I keep and hand wash for parties, gold mini forks, plastic disposable plates, and light blue napkins.
Cupcakes with Pigeon Printables
I bought blue and white cupcakes and made cute cupcake toppers from the printables on the Mo Willems site here. I served them on a two-tiered serving tray.
Print Out Pigeon Coloring Sheets
For the party, print out coloring sheets and activity sheets with markers or crayons to get the kids involved. You can get them here.
Dog Biscuits Recipe
Before the party, my daughter and I made dog bones for the new puppy that are also kid friendly just in case they want to try one. The recipe is below!.
Dog Biscuits Ingredients
- 1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 1/2 Cup Unsalted Peanut Butter
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
How to Make Dog Biscuits
Set the oven to preheat at 350 degrees F.
Start by putting the steel cut oats into a food processor.
Add the peanut butter and baking powder into the food processor.
Using your hand, roll out the mixture onto a flat surface.
Using a bone cookie cutter, cut out the bone shapes.
Place the dog biscuits on the cookie sheet with parchment paper or rubber baking mat.
Bake for 20 minutes. Check at 15 minutes to see how the bones are browning.
