Being a first time mom is scary. Notice I didn’t say “can be”. If you’re pregnant right now, get ready, because you WILL freak out every so often. The thing about being a first time mom is that you can read every baby book in the world, and you can talk to every mom out there to get advice. But you will feel overwhelmed, and you will feel like you’re not doing it right. And THAT’S OKAY.

Being a First Time Mom is a Learning Experience

When I first brought home my little girl, I was freaking out. I loved her so much, and my head was spinning with everything I was supposed to do, have, and be. I thought about the perfect baby products. I OVER baby proofed the house to the point where even my husband and I had trouble getting into the cabinets. If my little bundle of joy got fussy, I was sure she was deathly ill. These are the things that you’ll worry about when you bring your baby home.

But then I realized something. Baby’s are not made of glass. I also realized that although I was freaking out about things on the daily, I was doing a pretty darn good job. My baby was happy, healthy, had a full belly, and was hitting all of her developmental milestones. That’s when I figured out that I was essentially worried over nothing.

Being a first time mom taught me that I was really all my baby needed. As long as I loved my daughter and I did the best I could, that was enough. And she proved that to me every day. That’s what it taught these moms, too. Watch this video and see what other moms said about the first year of bringing home baby.

WaterWipes and Being a First Time Mom

One thing I did that I don’t think was overkill was to make sure that I didn’t introduce any chemicals to my baby’s skin or body. I looked for organic baby food, and I used WaterWipes to keep her clean. WaterWipes is a chemical free baby wipe that only used two ingredients: 99.9% pure Irish water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. These wipes are durable, effective, and have none of the harmful chemicals that are often in other baby wipes.

Being a first time mom is absolutely terrifying, but it’s also glorious. Once I got through the initial freak out phase,e things calmed down, and I was able to enjoy every milestone, whether it was hitting developmental markers or cleaning my little girl up after a particularly messy feeding session.

What about you? How did being a first time mom affect you? Did you freak out, or were you a cool cucumber?
