My new hairdresser has been helping me start with the right color blonde so that it is easier to protect hair from fading. The perfect toner coupled with awesome hair products is How to Keep Hair Color from Fading. Here are some simple tips and ways I keep my hair color from fading after I get it dyed.

How to Keep Hair Color from Fading

Tone Past Your Ideal Color

My hairdresser tones my hair color beyond my preferred color. I like a very cool, but not purple. The first few days after I get my hair dyed, it is purple. My old hairdresser did not get it and I had to coach her to tone my hair purple. If you love the purple and grey hair, you can keep this up with purple shampoo every time you wash. If you prefer cool blonde that is not purple, this is how I keep my hair a cool beige blonde.

Wash Your Hair Less

I try to wash my hair as little as possible. If I can go a week without washing, do it! When you do wash your hair, use awesome shampoo and conditioner like Gliss™ Color Guard Benefits. The shampoo and conditioner are made specifically for color-treated hair.

Gliss™ Color Guard Benefits

  • Anti-fading
  • UVA/UVB filter
  • Color protection up to 12 weeks*
  • This formula features Color Protection System and UV filter, helping seal color from washing out for optimal color retention and beautiful luminance.

Shampooing Method

Start by saturating your hair with water completely. Use a small amount of the Gliss Shampoo to lather at the roots only. Pull the lather over the ends in a straight stroking motion. Rinse thoroughly, but gently to make sure there is no shampoo left in your hair.

Conditioning Method

I usually keep a towel hanging over the side of the shower. Before I condition, I press the towel into my hair to get some of the water out. Then, I use Gliss™ Color Guard Benefits Conditioner on my midshaft to ends. After a minute, I comb the conditioner through my hair and let it sit while I shave and wash my body. It is usually in my hair for about 10 minutes. Then, I rinse with cold water.

Leave In Conditioner

Before I style my hair, I spray Color Guard Express Repair Conditioner. It has liquid keratin and a color protection system to keep hair color from fading by locking the cuticle from damage. It helps detangle and lock in your color at the same time.

Hair Treatments to Slow Down Color Fading

Every four shampoos, I use a hair treatment to slow down the color fading. Naturally, hair will fade with shampooing. While you shampoo your hair swells and the outer layer becomes more permeable and allows pigments to escape. After I wash my hair, I towel it dry and use Gliss Anti-Breakage Treatment. It has Keratin Care-19 Complex which deeply repairs your hair for soft, healthy-looking hair and significantly less hair breakage. I put my hair in a towel and go about my day allowing the mask to do its work for about 15 minutes. Sometimes, I bring it the treatment to the gym with me and apply right after my workout before I go into Sauna. This helps the treatment really sink in.

Ever wonder how to try out grey hair for a week to see if you would like it? Check out the picture of the week I had grey hair.
