Over the past 10 years, I have been making cheesy kale chips trying different variations of spices and consistency of cheese. This is by far my favorite way to eat parmesan kale chips. I prefer making kale chips to buying them in the bag because they taste best when they are fresh. The ones in the bags have preservatives and way too much stuff on them. I like a light sprinkling of cheese, olive oil spray, and spices to get crispy kale chips.

Benefits of Eating Parmesan Kale Chips

I just love when I can sneak in nutritious greens like Kale into my families diet. I enjoy eating Kale and eat it in a salad pretty often, but my family only really likes homemade Kale chips and this delicious Italian Wedding Couscous Soup Recipe.I recently snuck kale into this yummy Tucson Italian Sausage Soup.

Kale is an amazing green that is filled with iron and is low in calorie with high in fiber and has zero fat. This veggie s is filled with so a ton of nutrients like folate and magnesium as well as Vitamin A, C, & K. It is packed powerful antioxidants and per calorie, kale has more calcium than milk. Kale is said to help prevent certain cancers and is heart healthy because it can help lower cholesterol with its high fiber content.

What Do Kale Chips Taste Like?

A question that seems to come up a lot when I talk about Kale Chips is ‘What Do Kale Chips Taste Like?’ I know that Kale has a bad rep for tasting bitter and just too healthy? I totally that, but crispy kale chips have a flakey quality and no trace of the thick bitter veggie that they come from. Even my mom, a health nut, and broccoli lover was apprehensive about trying kale chips. All the ingredients are on her diet and she is not allergic to anything in the cheesy kale chips recipe, yet she still did not want to try it. I told her that the flavor is nothing like Broccoli Rape (which she hates) and it is more akin to the top of a slight burnt and crispy piece of broccoli. She immediately agreed to try the parmesan kale chips and fell in love!

The Key to the Best Parmesan Kale Chips – Massage Kale

You can tenderize your kale chips and make them more delicious with this really easy method. You massage kale by tearing them off the kale stalk and massage the kale leaves with your fingers. The leaves will soften a bit and turn a more vibrant green.  This helps get the bitterness out of the leaf. Removing the leaves from the kale chips makes them crispier when you bake them. The stalks have more water in them and will prevent the leaves from turning flakey.

Crispy Kale Chips

The recipe only has 3 ingredients, fresh kale, Olive Oil spray, and Stella Parmesan Cheese. You will need a Cookie Sheet, maybe a Salad Spinner (if your kale is not prewashed), an oven and an Olive Oil Mister.

Start by washing and drying your kale. Your recipe will turn out the best if you either spin the kale dry in a salad spinner or if you buy them prewashed.

Massage the kale and remove the leaves from the stems. Learn more about why you should massage kale above.

Preheat the broiler on high 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray the cookie sheet with olive oil using a mister.

Lay out the pieces of kale leaves all over the cookie sheet making a thin layer.

Crispy Kale ChipsSpray olive oil on top the kale.

Sprinkle the Stella Parmesan Cheese on top of the kale.

Place in oven for 8 minutes checking at the 5-minute mark to see if the chips are burning. Ovens vary and you don’t want to burn the crispy chips too much. You want to burn them just slightly.
