Two years ago I went on a trip to Mexico on Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas. During the trip, we had a cupcake making class this had us making cupcake burgers. I constantly think about how cute those burger cupcakes were. I ran into a few gals from that trip on the Disney Social Media Moms trip and I started thinking about how I could recreate that awesome custom burger cupcake. PS – it’s all sweet stuff no actual burgers or meat was used to make this cute cupcake!

The original Hamburger had pieces of fondant frosting to make the lettuce and cheese and chocolate cupcakes as the burgers. It was a huge hamburger cupcake stack as you can see. Now, that I have made this hamburger cupcake, I think I might be able to make the cheeseburger cupcake on my own.

Hamburger Cupcake “Meat” Frosting Recipe

Frosting Ingredients:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3 cup powder sugar1 tsp vanilla3/4 cup heavy cream
cocoa powderred gel food coloringyellow gel food coloringgreen gel food coloringsweet coconut flakes

Frosting Recipe:

Beat the softened butter on its own until smooth.
Add vanilla extractAdd powder sugar with heavy cream  into the creamed butter until it becomes a smooth and thick texture.
If the frosting is too thick, add more heavy cream, if  the frosting is too thin, add more powder sugar.
Take a spoonful of the frosting and hold the spoon upside down…. if the frosting drops off the spoon add more powdered sugar. If the frosting doesn’t fall off the spoon then it is ready.
Take out 4 tablespoons of frosting. Put 2 tablespoons in 1 bowl and the other 2tablespoons in a 2nd bowl.
In the first bowl with the 2 tablespoons of frosting. Add several drops of red gel food coloring. Stir well to mix the color.
In the second bowl with the 2 tablespoons of frosting. Add several drops of yellow gel food coloring. Stir well to mix the color.
Add the cocoa powder into the mixing bowl and mix well.
In a pastry bag with a large star tip… frost the “meat” on the bottom half of the cupcake “bun”.
Put the  coconut flakes into a ziplock bag… add several drops of  green gel food coloring….. ziplock the bag and shake until the coconut flakes are died green.

Using a #2 tip and a pastry bag , add in the red frosting. Repeat with the yellow frosting. Using the frosting, pipe on the red frosting and repeat with the yellow for ketchup and mustard. Place the top of your “hamburger bun” on your burger.

Additional Notes:

You can also make it even cooler by making cup cake fries by julienning the vanilla cupcakes and pouring the “ketchup” red frosting over like it is ketchup.

You can us white sprinkles as sesame seed atop the cupcake hamburger bun.
