Chocolate Oreo Cupcakes Instructions

Here’s a brief overview of how to make these dark chocolate Oreo cupcakes. The detailed instructions are in the recipe card.  You need to preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

1.) Whisk the dry ingredients together

The first step is to mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a large bowl. Then, add the sugar and brown sugar. You can use a stand mixer or hand mixer on high speed.

2.) Add the wet ingredients

Add the oil, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until it is combined.

3.) Pour into the cupcake liners and bake

Next, pour the batter into the cupcake liners and back them for about 22 minutes.

4.) Let them cool

This is a very important step. You must let them cool before frosting the cupcakes (or else you will melt the frosting). A wire rack will help them cool down faster.

5.) Make the frosting

While the chocolate cupcakes cool down, make the frosting. Cream the butter, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy whipping cream until combined and smooth and stiff peaks form.

6.) Use a piping bag

Put the buttercream frosting into a piping bag and frost the cooled cupcakes.

7.) Decorate with mini chocolate chips

Sprinkle mini chocolate chips around the base of the frosting.

8.) Make the chocolate ganache

In a small saucepan, pour the heavy whipping cream into it and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Then, pour the chocolate chips into a heat safe bowl. After the heavy whipping cream starts to simmer, remove from heat and pour it on top of the chocolate chips and allow to sit for one minute.

Whisk this mixture until smooth.

9.) Pipe the ganache onto the cupcakes

Scoop the ganache into a piping bag and cut the tip off. Drizzle the chocolate ganache over the cupcakes.

10.) Top with Oreos

Place the cut oreo’s into the top center of the frosting. Voila! You have some beautiful cupcakes!
