One of my favorite cold-weather drinks is hot chocolate. I love the creaminess of the chocolate, with a hint of sweetness. And I found a way to make my favorite drink keto-friendly! Try my Keto hot chocolate, you’ll love it too.

Keto Hot Chocolate Recipe

Keto Hot Chocolate

I almost couldn’t believe it myself. I created a hot chocolate that is keto-friendly! It’s like I can indulge in my favorite hot drink without feeling guilty. And you can too.

Sometimes it is so difficult to stay true to the Keto diet when everyone around you is eating or drinking your favorite things. Well now when they are enjoying hot chocolate, you can have some too. You just have to make sure you are making yours with a different sugar.

You can use whole milk if you want. I prefer dairy-free recipes whenever I can, so I used almond milk. I actually really like how the almond milk made it taste. It has a thicker and creamier texture.

Before I get to the recipe at the bottom, here is some information about the recipe.

Keto Hot Chocolate Shopping List

First, here is what you’ll need from the store to make my hot chocolate recipe.

  • Almond milk
  • Stevia in the Raw
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

Keto Toppings for Hot Chocolate

You can actually top it off with homemade whipped cream. Use heavy cream, a Keto-friendly sweetener, and vanilla. Then whip them all up! Or you can buy a sugar-free whipped cream.

And of course, make (or buy) keto marshmallows for the toppings.

I also like topping it with unsweetened dark chocolate shavings or Lily’s Stevia Sweetened Choas a garnish.

Is Stevia Keto Friendly?

Stevia is actually one of the best sweeteners you can use on Keto. It is a plant-based sweetener that has been linked with lower blood sugar levels. Plus, it has NO calories and ranks at a 0 on the Glycemic Index.

Is Chocolate Keto Friendly?

Yes, chocolate is a keto food, in moderation and depending on what kind you eat. Elana’s Pantry has a very helpful article about it. Try to only have dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa solids. In this recipe, I used unsweetened cocoa powder.

If you want, you can also make this with a dark chocolate powder. It’s so rich!

How to Make Hot Chocolate with Coconut Milk

I really like it with the almond milk. I think it’s the perfect texture. But if you want to make it with coconut milk you definitely can. To use my recipe, just replace the almond milk with coconut milk.

If you are able to have dairy, you can make your own Keto whipped cream with whipping cream and Stevia in the Raw. It is a delicious way to top your low carb hot cocoa.

You can also create a thicker, creamier, version that is both Paleo and Keto. I like the recipe on Paleo Leap. They use canned full-fat coconut milk and dark chocolate.

  1. You show 4 TBSP Barlean’s Green Chocolate Silk in the Ingredients, but in the Instructions you show one cup of unsweetened cocoa powder. Which is correct?
