Roasted Red Pepper Hummus Appetizer

Let’s start with the appetizers. I like to make low prep appetizers that look extra special. My first appetizer is starts with Boar’s Head Hummus. They have a ton of hummus flavors to choose from and I picked up Boar’s Head Everything Bagel Hummus and Roasted Red Pepper Hummus.

Boar’s Head Pro Tip

Hummus flavors with toppings (i.e. Roasted Red Pepper) should have the toppings mixed in before serving, adding even more flavor with every bite!

Sliced Peppers Chips

Instead of laying out crackers, I decided to slice up peppers instead for the ultimate scooping. Snacking peppers are a great choice for dipping in hummus because they keep the carbs down are extreme healthy. I just slice them in half and remove any white parts and seed from the center.

How to Keep Sliced Peppers Fresh?

For my pepper appetizer, I sliced more than are pictured and have the rest in a ziplock in my fridge so I can replenish as people eat the peppers throughout the day. For cut peppers, store them in a sealed container or plastic bag with a paper towel to absorb excess moisture. Keep them in your crisper drawer.

How Long Do Cut Peppers Last in the Fridge?

Bell peppers keep well in the refrigerator for 1 or sometimes even 2 weeks when kept in a plastic bag in the crisper drawer. To freeze bell peppers, roast them first, toss with a little olive oil (and garlic, if you like) and keep them in an airtight container.

More Homegating Appetizers Ideas

Here are a few homegating party appetizer ideas that will complement your hummus appetizer. They require a little more prep and cooking, but are worth making at least one of them for your football watch party.

Homegating Refreshments

On to your homegating refreshment for the big game day! I love fruit infused waters, so I am all about soaking cucumbers, mint, strawberries, raspberries in a drink dispenser for guests to enjoy. To make the infused wasters extra special, serve your drinks in mason jars with festive straws in black and white or your team colors.

If you are looking for an easy cocktail to bring to a dinner party that is low carb, check out White Claw. It has between 2 to zero carbs with 100 to 70 calories per can.
