The beautiful thing about this recipe is the simplicity. Pour some wine. Add some sparkling water. Drop in the strawberries. Done!

It makes a stunning presentation and is virtually effortless to prepare.

Before I share the recipe below, I’ll answer some frequently asked questions about my cocktail. If you have any more questions, leave them in the comments.

What type of wine is best for a strawberry cocktail?

You can use any red wine you have on hand, but the Cabernet tasted great with the strawberries. Since you are adding sparkling water and strawberries, I’d go with a dryer wine. If you choose a really sweet dessert wine, you might be surprised at how sweet it becomes with the added fruit.

What makes a drink a cocktail?

Recently, it’s become pretty common to refer to any mixed alcoholic drink as a cocktail. That matches up pretty well with what the dictionary defines it as too. “an iced drink of wine or distilled liquor mixed with flavoring ingredients.”

Some people say it has to have at least 3 ingredients. Others think it should only refer to mixed drinks that contain hard liquor.

What alcohol can you put in a Strawberry Cocktail?

There are a lot of different versions of strawberry cocktails out there. Some of the most popular liquors to mix for cocktails include:

  • Vodka
  • Gin
  • Bourbon
  • Tequila

Add one part red wine to each glass or the pitcher.

Then, add two parts sparkling water.

Slice a line into a whole strawberry for use to garnish each glass.

Add ice if you want, but we chose not to since the sparkling water was chilled.

Drink and enjoy!

What To Serve With Strawberry Cocktails

These are fantastic all by themselves. But you want some ideas of foods to serve, here are some of my favorites!

  • Artisan cheese – try to go for a saltier hard cheese.
  • Pita chips – the crunch of the chips will really go well with the sweet cocktail
  • Charcuterie board – serve your favorite smoked or other prepared meats. I love proscioutto.
